WOMXN IN POWER

In 2019, female identified folk from around the world sent me a photo of a moment they felt powerful. Each image was individually sketched and then collaged into this one work.

This project came to be at the height of the Me Too movement. I was feeling overwhelmed by the amount of stories coming out, and how I could see many becoming a wash in the news. I felt like I was loosing hope, or power in a way. I decided to draw a self portrait from a moment I felt powerful and was surprised to see how much it gave me. I asked other friends to send me a photo of a moment they felt powerful hoping it could offer a similar sense of personal appreciation. I was shocked at the responses I received, and decided to extend the offer on Instagram to whomever would like to participate. The stories these womxn shared with me, and the trust of their vulnerable and powerful moments was one of the most powerful experiences I have ever had.
